Nolo Titles
Revised
November
1, 2004
Nolo
titles are kept for two editions. The current title is shelved in Open
Reserve, with one previous edition shelved in the circulating collection. As
Nolo is notorious for changing titles frequently, all titles are cataloged as
monographs. If the title has been
cataloged as a serial, we will change the format when the new editions
arrive.
Serials
When a Nolo title is received on the serials truck, the serials check-in
staff will determine first if it has a serial control. If it does, the
control must be deleted. Write the call number on a Post-it note, stick the
Post-it to the book and send the volume to Acquisitions. If there is no
serial control, send the volume to Acquisitions.
Acquisitions
A monograph record for the new edition is downloaded. Acquisitions will move
the line 1 standing order from previous edition and create a line 2 for
payment/receiving information. Line 1’s from previous fiscal cycles attached
to the bib record of the old edition should be removed (unless these are firm
orders). When order record is complete, send to Cataloging.
Cataloging
New title is cataloged as any other item. Type: NONCIRC; Location:
OPEN-RES. Catalog as a monograph,
providing LC classification number as appropriate. Pull previous edition if
any and recatalog as a monograph if it was done as a serial, including
reclassification. Type: LAW-STKS; Location: STACKS-2, STACKS-3, or BASEMENT
as appropriate.
When
a third edition is received, follow procedures similar to case books and pull
previous editions. Titles frequently change for these materials, and it would
sometimes be difficult for a shelver to identify and pull the correct volume.
To minimize this problem, cataloging staff will take on this responsibility.
